Welcome to the Education for Gender Justice Research Lab

We are a group of researchers studying the intersection of gender, violence, and education and the mobilization of education to prevent gender-based violence and discrimination. Our team conducts qualitative and participatory research to understand and advance the role of education in enhancing gender justice. We are led by Dr. Catherine Vanner and located at the University of Windsor on the Traditional Territory of the Three Fires Confederacy of First Nations, which includes the Ojibwa, the Odawa, and the Potawatomi.

Kids Help Phone

Kids Help Phone is Canada’s only 24/7, national support service. We offer professional counselling, information and referrals and volunteer-led, text-based support to young people. Whether by phone, text, Peer2Peer Community or through our website, you can connect with us whenever you want, however you want. Our service is completely confidential

Trans Lifeline

Trans Lifeline’s Hotline is a peer support phone service run by trans people for our trans and questioning peers. Call us if you need someone trans to talk to, even if you’re not in a crisis or if you’re not sure you’re trans.
When you call, you’ll speak to a trans/nonbinary peer operator
Full anonymity and confidentiality
No non-consensual active rescue (calling 911, emergency services, or law enforcement)
When call volumes are high, it may take longer to get connected—please try calling again.

Salal Sexual Violence Support Centre (formerly WAVAW Crisis and Information Line)

WAVAW 24-Hour Crisis and Information Line provides 24/7, free and confidential support by phone and online chat. We help the LGBTQ+ community, women, men in Canada who may be struggling or looking for support with sexual abuse. When you reach out to us you will talk with one of our trained and supportive counselors who will collaborate with you to find solutions while giving you an empathetic and compassionate ear. They have expertise and understanding in how to help people going through difficulties similar to what you are. We are ready to support you 24/7, whether it’s the middle of the day or the middle of the night.

Wellness Together Canada

Wellness Together Canada offers counselling (phone or video) and crisis support (texting), 24/7. Services are free and offered to anyone across Canada, or Canadians abroad, and provide support for any mental health and/or substance use health need.Translation is available through the phone line, in over 200 languages. The counselling line is supported by trained and supervised counsellors. In addition to counselling and crisis support, a full continuum of virtual mental health and substance use health resources are available at wellnesstogether.ca Wellness Together Canada is delivered in partnership with Homewood Health, Kids Help Phone and Stepped Care Solutions, and is funded by the Government of Canada.

The Listening Ear – Canada

The Listening Ear is dedicated to providing free, compassionate and confidential support over phone. We are here to help everyone in Michigan, the United States, and Canada who may be looking for support with abuse & domestic violence, anxiety, bullying, Dementia & Alzheimer’s, depression, eating & body image, family issues, gambling, gender & sexual identity, grief & loss, loneliness, parenting, pregnancy & abortion, relationships, school or work issues, self-harm, sexual abuse, stress, substance use, suicide, supporting a friend or family member, trauma & PTSD. People call us for many different mental health, crisis and behavioral health reasons. Regardless of what you are experiencing, we can support you. Talking with us is free. As part of our commitment to preventing suicide, we are available to help you if you are considering suicide or harming yourself, or if you are noticing warning signs in a friend or family member

Youthspace.ca

Youthspace.ca is a free online crisis & emotional support chat service for youth under 30 across Canada. We don’t give advice because we believe everyone is resourceful, capable and has the right to make their own decisions. We will help you explore ideas, options, supports and resources. We’re here to help you build and access strategies for coping with life’s many challenges. We are available to talk with you about any kind of experience relating to mental health, from a mental health crisis through to general wellbeing. Our support is free. As part of our commitment to preventing suicide, we are available to help you if you are considering suicide or harming yourself, or if you are noticing warning signs in a friend or family member

When you contact us you will talk with one our friendly and supportive volunteers who are experienced in how to help people in your situation. They will listen to you, unpack your story and feelings, and work with you to help you through your challenges.

First Nations and Inuit Hope for Wellness Helpline

The Hope for Wellness Helpline is available to all Indigenous people across Canada. Experienced and culturally competent counsellors are reachable by telephone and online ‘chat’ 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Both telephone and online chat services are available in English and French. Telephone support is also available upon request in Cree, Ojibway (Anishinaabemowin), or Inuktitut.

NISA Helpline

Nisa Helpline is a Project of the Nisa Foundation. We are a registered not-for-profit Canadian charity that offers a free, anonymous, and confidential 12-hr telephone line available to Muslim women across North America, seven days a week from 10 am to 10 pm EST. Our Peer counselors are here to support callers and help the caller find their footing and gain strength in a time of need. We also provide scheduled meeting with mental health professionals to support repeat callers. The call center offers numerous online seminars and training on popular mental health issues.
